Commercial Photography in 45 Minutes
I decided to blog on the subject of photographing a subject in 45 minutes for the simple fact that it can be done effectively providing you have a subject that can change and adapt quickly. And, if you have a photographer who is quick to see potential shots and as well as quick with ideas. (Side Note: I still prefer taking my time, but there are instances where fast photography is essential, especially if you are wedding photographer or news journalist photographer.)
While my subject happened to be actress Kim Marlowe (and an individual who can change and adapt quickly), this can be accomplished with just about any subject, professional or not.
The photo shoot ran a total of 45 minutes. The point of the shoot was to provide Kim with some quick head and commercial photographs. My dilemma, I had only an hour prior to a regularly scheduled appointment. However, Kim was only available on the date that I had the appointment, therefore, the result is a quick 45 minute shoot which yielded 4 distinct looks both usable by Kim as well as I for stock photography.
- Total Images captured: 371
- Total photography time: 45 minutes
- Wardrobe changes: 4

- 10:00 - Arrive at the home of actress Kim Marlowe to begin the photo shoot. Subject is ready in wardrobe 1 (seen above).
- 10:05 - 10:09 - First test shots are captured on the porch and a few minutes later, the first few usable images are taken.

- 10:11 - Wardrobe change 2; black shirt with blue jeans for a casual look.
- 10:14 - 10:23 - set-up 2 in front yard by an old tree. I liked the use of the tree as a backdrop for the black shirt.

- 10:26 - wardrobe change 3; green business dress
- 10:29 - 10:33 - set-up 3; photographed in the driveway in front of the car. Quick thinking led to creating a sales person or auto insurance professional look. We where in luck as we found a clipboard laying around the house. It was a nicely added prop to the photo.

- 10:34 - wardrobe change 4; casual "mom" look. We scrambled for a grocery sack in the garage and filled it with groceries from the kitchen.
- 10:37 - 10:45 - set-up 4; Opened the back of the car in the driveway to help enhance the concept of this photograph; "mom returns from shopping."
The overall photo session was quite a challenge given the time frame. However, with a few props, quick wardrobe changes, and having a preconceived idea of what I wanted to photograph helped in the quick shoot. There where images I wanted to capture, but was not able to do so due to location and a lack of a few props as well as time, but I did make a mental note of it and will be able to revisit the concepts on a later date, when I have time to plan and take the pictures. |
